OCD Awareness Tidbits

OCD Awareness Week 2012 (October 8-14, 2012) is fast approaching, and OCD Texas has put together an impressive OCD Film Festival. Check it out! The festival is online as well as onsite and includes feature, short and animated films. You can even participate in online discussions. What a great way to promote OCD awareness!

Have you heard about J.K. Rowling’s new novel that is being released today? The Casual Vacancy has an adult character with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Rowling has revealed that she has struggled with OCD in the past. Who knew? I know that Daniel Radcliffe is on the list of famous people with OCD, but never knew about Rowling.

Finally, I’d like to share what I thought was a powerful advertisement for mental health awareness put out by Time to Change, England’s leading national anti-stigma program. Thanks to Pride in Madness for that link.

Bit by bit, we are chiseling away at the stigma surrounding OCD and other mental health disorders.
